Appraisal is the process (usually in homeowners insurance and commercial insurance dispute) that involves the valuation of an insurance claim. Each side in a dispute selects an appraiser to determine the value of the claim. If the appraisers can agree on a final valuation, the matter is resolved. If the two appraisers are unable to come to an agreement, the valuation is then determined by a third party Umpire. Umpires can be agreed to by the parties, or appointed by a Court.
